Author Washington Irving brings us the legendary tale of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod Crane has moved to the small town of Terry Town, New York where he is to be the new schoolmaster. But as the story goes Ichabod is bullied by Brom Bones because they fight for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel. One night while Ichobod is getting ready to meet Katrina he is chased by the specter known as the Headless Horseman. But Ichobod goes for the covered bridge where the Horseman stops and throws the flaming pumpkin at him. This is a very short read and perfect for the Halloween season. Out of the various adaptations I would say that the original Disney short is close to the story while the Tim Burton film as well as the TV series differ but they are still good adaptations in their own right. I highly recommend this reading of the Legend of Sleepy Hallow.
