Author M.D. Cooper brings us another view of her Aeon 14 universe with the Empire trilogy's first book the Empress and the Ambassador. The transcend's Ambassador Petra has been ousted by them for not only being the head spy master for the group called the Hand but also for the fact that she had taken on the job to insure that that part of the galaxy wouldn't fall into civil war. The Empress Diana her lover for two decades hasn't taken the news well but has allowed Petra to move her base of operations into the royal plaice's spire and to make her a full member of her court. One night while they're having a dinner at a restaurant aboard a local satellite asteroid Petra's link goes offline and her barriers are cracked but her AI takes that into account and calls for backup in the nick of time because the Empresses's royal guard and her own guards are fighting off someone from within that they don't know is being manipulated by an Orion agent. This was an interesting novella and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the trilogy. I highly recommend this book to all science fiction fans.
