Author Keith R.A. Decandido brings us a look into the life of Sonya Gomez from her posting right out of Starfleet Academy. That positing is the Enterprise and the fact that she wanted to see what was out there. She had got her wish when Q flung the Enterprise into the Detla Quadrant at system J25. There they meet the Borg. Then once they where back in the Alpha Quadrant Sonya began to take Geordi's advice and lesson up. She was praised for her work on the Constellation-class ship the Hathaway during the wargame that had been interrupted. She and Duffy began to see each other and he helped her when the Borg returned and kidnapped Picard. We then see her life after and her chance to serve on a different ship the Oberth for a year before the outbreak of the Dominion War. After the war she had gotten a promotion to full commander and was requested by Captain David Gold to serve as his first officer and head of the S.C.E. aboard the da Vinci. I really enjoyed this novella and I highly recommend this book to all science fiction fans especially those that remember the TNG episode Q Who and want to see what Sonya Gomez was doing before that adventure and after.
