Authors Margret Weis & Tracy Hickman bring us the second book in the Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy. At the beginning of the book the companions are still together but finding where the fabled Dragonlance is has torn the grope apart. Tanis and the others split up when Stern is asked to take an elif madien to her homeland. While they continue on and go through dragon controlled territory. As this is going on the Kender and the old mage find themselves in one of the only technological settlements on Kryn and they then learn there how the Dragon Orbs work. But near the end we know that things are looking bleak for the companions and a sacrifice has to be made. This is a great book and yes it dose contain 3 short novellas but each are a part of the book. I highly recommend this novel to all Fantasy fans and I'm looking forward to reading or listing to the final book in the trilogy.
