Author Richelle Mead brings us the story of Fei an artist from a village high up on the top of a mountain. For centuries her people have not had hearing and one day her's comes back but she doesn't tell anyone at first for several fears. The village that she lives in is ruled by a cast system of artists, and miners. On the night that her hearing comes back she has a dream of a mythical creature rising above her people who are shouting at the top of their lungs. Her village is also being controlled by the nearby town and from there the King who demands that they mine the toxic metals so they can be turned into money and other things. One day the town withholds the food supply that they where supposed to send so Fei and her friend Li head down the rocky side of the mountain and discover the truth that had been held from them for far to long. Once in the center of town they meet a woman who knows of their plight because of another village like theirs which was father down the mountain. This then begins a race back to her village and from there the truth to be told. This is a great book and one that I highly recommend.
