Author Stephen Baxter brings us a short tale of a stranded Martian and the family that is effected by it's presence in the woods behind their house. This story takes place not to long after the events of War of the Worlds and chronicles the life of those left behind namely a woman named Zena Gardner and her brother who the martian had taken as food supply. But in the end if it wasn't for her that Martian would've stained on Earth and consumed all of the blood from her brother. It should be noted that this is only a taste of what's to come in Baxter's own sequel to War of the Worlds called the Massacre of Mankind of which I will be getting a copy. I highly recommend this story to all War of the Worlds fans.
