2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke ready by Dick Hill & Forward by Author C. Clarke

Author Arthur C. Clarke brings us the opening to his space odyssey series with 2001. As the book opens we find ourselves at the dawn of humanity with a signal ape who is on his way to becoming the first true human. He and his clan find the monolith and begin the transformation that will lead to modern day human. The second part of the book deals with Doctor Haywood Floyd as he takes his trip to the Moon were they've uncovered a monolith there. The last part of the book deals with the events of the U.S.S. Discovery and how her main computer HAL malfunctioned thanks to a flaw in its programming that made it lye to the command crew of David Bowmen and his second. But during the last part of the book as Bowmen leaves the Discovery he makes contact with a larger Monolith but not in orbit of Jupiter but in orbit of Saturn above that planets rings. Bowmen takes a shuttle pod to the monolith and then is transported to places he would never have thought to be. This is a classic of science fiction and one that I was considering missing while I've read both 2010 and 2061 I still have the final book in the series to read 3001. I highly recommend this book in either form.
